NEET Physics QUESTION #1022
Question 1
A parallel plate capacitor made of circular plates is being charged such that the surface charge density on its plates is increasing at a constant rate with time. The magnetic field arising due to displacement current is:
  • Non-zero everywhere with maximum at the imaginary cylindrical surface connecting peripheries of the plates✔️
  • Zero between the plates and non-zero outside
  • Zero at all places
  • Constant between the plates and zero outside the plates
Correct Answer Explanation
By Ampere-Maxwell law, the displacement current \(I_d = \varepsilon_0 \frac{d\Phi_E}{dt}\) creates a magnetic field. Inside the capacitor, \(B \propto r\) (increases with radius), and is maximum at the rim of the plates. Outside the rim, \(B \propto 1/r\). So B is non-zero everywhere with maximum at the cylindrical surface connecting plate peripheries.
