High-throughput screening (HTS) uses miniaturised reaction formats (microtitre plates, microfluidic chips) and robotic liquid handling to simultaneously test thousands of parameters — strains, media compositions, pH, temperature, inducer concentrations — in parallel. Combined with Design of Experiments (DoE) and automated analytical systems (e.g. online spectrophotometry), HTS dramatically accelerates the early stages of bioprocess development, reducing time and reagent costs compared to traditional sequential optimisation.
