Hydrolysis (reaction of minerals with water, breaking chemical bonds) and hydration (incorporation of water molecules into mineral structure, e.g. anhydrite → gypsum) are classic chemical weathering processes that alter mineral composition. Spheroidal weathering involves corners and edges weathering faster — it is a form of chemical weathering in appearance but driven by differential chemical attack. Thermal expansion and frost wedging are physical/mechanical weathering processes.
