Pangaea (Greek: 'all Earth') was the supercontinent proposed by Alfred Wegener (1912) that contained all of Earth's landmasses approximately 300–200 million years ago. Pangaea began breaking apart during the Triassic/Jurassic, first splitting into Laurasia (northern: North America, Europe, Asia) and Gondwanaland (southern: South America, Africa, Antarctica, Australia, India). The process drove the evolution of distinct regional flora and fauna.
