Honeybees (Apis mellifera) are highly organised social insects (eusocial) that live in colonies of up to 60,000 individuals with clear division of labour: one reproductive queen, male drones, and sterile female workers. Other eusocial insects include ants, termites, and some wasps. Grasshoppers, lice, and cockroaches are solitary/subsocial insects. Eusociality is characterised by cooperative brood care, overlapping generations, and reproductive division of labour.
