In female fish, FSH is predominantly associated with recruitment of new oocyte cohorts (early folliculogenesis) — initiating the development of a new group of oocytes from the ovarian reserve. LH is more important for vitellogenesis (yolk deposition) and ovulation in later stages. Spermiation is the release of sperm in males, not relevant to females. The two-gonadotropin model (FSH for recruitment, LH for maturation) is well established in fish reproductive endocrinology.
