Transcription is the process of synthesising RNA from a DNA template, catalysed by RNA polymerase. The resulting RNA molecule (mRNA, tRNA, rRNA) is complementary and antiparallel to the template DNA strand. Translation converts mRNA sequence into protein; replication copies DNA to DNA; the central dogma (Crick, 1958) describes the overall flow of genetic information: DNA → RNA → Protein.
