Birds can hear sounds in the range of approximately 1,000–15,000 Hz, with peak sensitivity around 1,000–4,000 Hz. This is narrower than human hearing (20–20,000 Hz) but sufficient for song recognition and communication. Some owls have exceptional hearing with asymmetrically placed ears for precise 3D sound location. Echolocating bats hear ultrasound up to 200,000 Hz, far beyond avian and human ranges.
