Globulins are a group of serum proteins including alpha (α), beta (β), and gamma (γ) globulins. The normal range of total serum globulin is approximately 2.2–3.8 g/dL. Gamma globulins (immunoglobulins/antibodies) account for the majority of globulin function. Decreased globulin may indicate immunodeficiency; increased levels indicate chronic inflammation, infection, or myeloma. Total serum protein = albumin (~3.5–5.0 g/dL) + globulin (~2.2–3.8 g/dL) = 6.0–8.5 g/dL.
