Mechanical resonance occurs when the VFD output frequency excites the natural resonant frequency of the motor-load mechanical system (shaft, bearings, coupled machine). This can cause excessive vibration, noise, and fatigue failure. The solution is to program skip frequencies (forbidden speed ranges) in the VFD to avoid continuous operation at resonant frequencies.
