Metamorphosis is the biological process of transformation from an immature larval stage (caterpillar) to a mature adult form (butterfly). In complete metamorphosis (holometabolism), the four stages are egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa (chrysalis), and adult (imago). Fragmentation and budding are asexual reproduction strategies in simpler organisms.
