The biological species concept defines a species as a group of organisms that can interbreed freely and produce fertile offspring. If two plants can freely reproduce with each other and form viable seeds (fertile offspring), they conclusively belong to the same species. Same chromosome number alone is not sufficient (polyploids can share numbers across species).
