Elaters are hygroscopic, elongated cells with spiral wall thickenings found in liverwort capsules (e.g., Marchantia). They twist and untwist with changes in humidity, mechanically flinging spores into the air for dispersal. Peristome teeth are found in mosses; indusium protects fern sori; calyptra protects the moss capsule.
