Frankia is a symbiotic, filamentous actinomycete that fixes nitrogen in root nodules of non-leguminous plants like Alnus and Casuarina. Azolla is a fern with symbiotic Anabaena (not itself the fixer). Glomus forms mycorrhiza (not nitrogen-fixing). Azotobacter is a free-living nitrogen fixer.
