Ringworm (tinea) is a common superficial fungal infection (dermatophytosis) caused by fungi such as Trichophyton, Microsporum, and Epidermophyton. Despite the name, no worm is involved. It causes circular, scaly, itchy patches on the skin. It is treated with antifungal agents like clotrimazole or terbinafine.
