The Umayyad Caliphate was overthrown at the Battle of Zab in 750 CE (not 751). This battle was fought on the banks of the Great Zab River. The Abbasids, led by Abu al-Abbas, defeated the last Umayyad Caliph Marwan II, establishing the Abbasid Caliphate that lasted until 1258 CE.
