The tragedy of Karbala occurred on 10th Muharram 61 AH (October 10, 680 CE). Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), along with his family and 72 companions, was martyred by the army of Yazid ibn Muawiyah at Karbala, Iraq. This event is one of the most significant and tragic events in Islamic history, particularly commemorated during Muharram by Muslims worldwide, especially Shia Muslims.
