The maximum number of Huffaz (memorizers of the Quran) were martyred in the Battle of Yamama in 632 CE (11 AH) during the caliphate of Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA). Approximately 70 Huffaz were killed in this battle against the false prophet Musaylimah. This tragic loss prompted Hazrat Umar (RA) to suggest to Abu Bakr (RA) the compilation of the Quran in written form to preserve it, leading to the first official compilation.
