Surah Al-Fatiha is called 'Ummul Kitab' (Mother of the Book) and also 'Ummul Quran' (Mother of the Quran). It is the opening Surah of the Quran with 7 verses, also known as 'As-Sab'ul Mathani' (The Seven Oft-Repeated Verses). It is recited in every unit of prayer (Salah) and encompasses the essence of the entire Quran: praising Allah, seeking guidance, and asking for the straight path. The Prophet (PBUH) called it the greatest Surah in the Quran.
