Ahmad ibn al-Baytar (though the name might be confused with Ibn al-Baitar) was a renowned botanist and pharmacist from Muslim Spain (Al-Andalus). He lived in the 13th century and was an expert in medicinal plants. His most famous work 'Kitab al-Jami fi al-Adwiya al-Mufrada' (The Book of Simple Drugs) documented over 1,400 medicinal plants and drugs, making him one of the greatest botanists in history.
