Article 251(1) states: 'The National language of Pakistan is Urdu, and arrangements shall be made for its being used for official and other purposes within fifteen years from the commencing day.' However, English may continue for official purposes until then. Clause (3) allows a Provincial Assembly to prescribe measures for teaching/use of a provincial language.
