Anterograde amnesia is the inability to form new long-term memories after the onset of brain damage, while memories formed before the damage remain relatively intact. It is classically associated with damage to the hippocampus. The famous patient H.M. (Henry Molaison) exemplified anterograde amnesia after bilateral hippocampal removal.
