The programme supports the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (10YFP) , a global commitment adopted by all 193 UN Member States to accelerate the shift toward responsible production and consumption in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) , especially SDG 12.1.

UNEP is recruiting five interns to support the Consumer Information Programmeโ€™s coordination desk and major initiatives.

Internship periods available:

  • July to December 2026 โ€“ 3 positions
  • January to June 2027 โ€“ 2 positions

Start dates are flexible depending on candidate availability.

๐Ÿ” Key Workstreams Youโ€™ll Support

Interns will contribute to high-impact sustainability projects, including:

  1. Retail4Impact Initiative โ€“ Strengthening product sustainability claims and green transparency in the retail industry.
  2. Digital Product Information Systems (DPIS) โ€“ Advancing digital product passports to support the circular economy (Digitalization for Circular Economy โ€“ D4CE).
  3. EcoAdvance Project โ€“ Supporting ecolabels and certification schemes that help consumers identify genuinely sustainable products.

โœ… Main Responsibilities

Under the supervision of an Associate Programme Management Officer, interns will:

  • Support project implementation and liaise with partner organizations
  • Conduct research on consumer information, ecolabelling, and digital systems
  • Help organize and coordinate programme events and webinars
  • Draft presentations, articles, social media content, and awareness materials
  • Develop and update website content
  • Assist with the programmeโ€™s bi-monthly consumer information newsletter
  • Maintain a stakeholder database and identify strategic partners
  • Support SDG 12.1 progress reporting
  • Contribute to the Skills & Lifestyle Area of Excellence, including sustainable tourism communications

This internship is designed for students and recent graduates. You are eligible if you meet one of the following:

  • Enrolled in or completed a graduate programme (Masterโ€™s or higher)
  • Enrolled in or completed the final year of a Bachelorโ€™s programme

Preferred academic backgrounds include:

  • Environmental studies / Sustainable development
  • Communications / Journalism / Media studies
  • International relations
  • Information management
  • Related disciplines

No professional work experience is required. However, the following skills are highly valued:

  • Strong research and data compilation ability (Excel, standard office tools)
  • Interest in environmental communications
  • Ability to create basic infographics using Canva, PowerPoint, or similar tools
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Willingness to work in multicultural environments

Remote interns must provide their own computer equipment and internet access.
