Cysteine's thiol group can be oxidized to form a disulfide bond (cystine) with another cysteine residue, an important covalent cross-link stabilizing protein folding (e.g., in insulin and immunoglobulins); methionine also contains sulfur but as a thioether, which does not form disulfide bonds.
