Rabindranath Tagore himself translated his Bengali collection Gitanjali (Song Offerings) into English prose poems. The English translation (1912) won him the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913 — the first non-European to receive it. W. B. Yeats wrote the famous introduction to the English edition and championed Tagore's work, but the translation was Tagore's own.
