Movable Type printing was developed by Johannes Gutenberg in the 1440s–1450s in Germany, revolutionising book production. His Gutenberg Bible (~1455) was the first major book printed with this technology. Movable type allowed individual metal letters to be arranged, printed, and rearranged — making mass production of books possible for the first time. In England, William Caxton introduced printing in 1476.
