John Keats (1795–1821) died of tuberculosis (then called consumption) at the age of 25 in Rome, where he had gone hoping the warmer climate would help him recover. His final letters poignantly describe his suffering. Tuberculosis was also fatal to many of his family members, including his brother Tom. Keats is one of several Romantic poets who died tragically young.
