Icelandic is the modern Scandinavian language most closely related to Old Norse. Because Iceland has been relatively isolated geographically and culturally, its language has changed far less than Danish, Swedish, or Norwegian over the past 1,000 years. An educated Icelander can read Old Norse sagas in the original with relatively little difficulty. Old Norse was the language of the Vikings and Norse mythology.
