Arundhati Roy won the Booker Prize in 1997 for her debut novel The God of Small Things. Set in Kerala, it explores the lives of Ammu and her dizygotic (fraternal) twins Rahel and Estha, dealing with forbidden love, caste, politics, and memory. It remains one of the best-selling Man Booker Prize winners of all time. Roy's second novel, The Ministry of Utmost Happiness, appeared in 2017.
