Learning is best studied experimentally in authentic classroom situations — the real environment where teaching and learning naturally occur. Experimental methods applied to actual classroom contexts (controlled studies, action research) yield valid, applicable findings about how students learn. Studying learning in artificial laboratory conditions may not reflect genuine classroom dynamics. Classroom-based research produces findings directly applicable to improving teaching practice.
