Jerome Bruner (1915–2016) is the founder of discovery learning — the educational theory that students learn best by actively discovering knowledge through exploration and experimentation rather than passively receiving it. Bruner's concept of the spiral curriculum and his 1961 book The Process of Education established discovery learning. While Piaget's constructivism influenced Bruner, Bruner is specifically credited with developing and promoting discovery learning as a pedagogical approach.
