A reflex is an automatic, involuntary, rapid response to a stimulus that does not require conscious thought. Reflexes are mediated by reflex arcs involving sensory neurons, interneurons (in spinal cord), and motor neurons. Examples include the knee-jerk reflex, pupil dilation, and withdrawal reflex.
