Pacinian corpuscles (Lamellar corpuscles) are encapsulated mechanoreceptors located deep in the skin that detect pressure and vibration. They are the specific touch receptors. Olfactory receptors detect smell; nociceptors detect pain; while mechanoreceptors is the broader category that includes Pacinian corpuscles and other pressure-sensitive receptors.
