Absorption of amino acids is NOT a function of the large intestine. Amino acids are absorbed in the small intestine (mainly duodenum and jejunum) via active transport. The large intestine's primary functions are reabsorption of water, absorption of electrolytes (Na⁺, Cl⁻), vitamin K production by bacteria, and formation/expulsion of feces.
