Phagocytosis is performed by phagocytes (macrophages, neutrophils), NOT by antibodies directly. Antibody modes of action include: neutralization (blocking pathogen binding), opsonization (coating pathogens to enhance phagocytosis), complement activation, and agglutination. Antibodies are Y-shaped glycoproteins; they cannot engulf pathogens themselves.
