Chief cells (zymogenic cells) in the gastric glands of the stomach secrete pepsinogen (inactive precursor of pepsin) and gastric lipase. Pepsinogen is activated to pepsin by HCl. Parietal cells secrete HCl and intrinsic factor; G cells secrete gastrin; mucus cells secrete protective mucus.
