A Worm is a standalone malicious program that replicates and spreads across networks without attaching to another program (unlike viruses). The concept was inspired by Brunner's 1975 novel. Famous worms: Morris Worm (1988, the first internet worm), ILOVEYOU, and WannaCry ransomware.
