Viscosity is the property of a fluid by which it resists relative motion between its adjacent layers. The viscous force always opposes the relative motion (sliding) between layers, similar to friction in solids. This is described by Newton's law of viscosity: \(F = \eta A \frac{dv}{dy}\).
