Fermi-Dirac statistics applies to fermions — particles with half-integer spin (\(\frac{1}{2}, \frac{3}{2}, \ldots\)) that obey the Pauli exclusion principle. Electrons, protons, and neutrons are fermions. Photons are bosons (integer spin = 1) and obey Bose-Einstein statistics, not Fermi-Dirac.
