A cirque (also called a corrie or cwm) is a bowl-shaped, amphitheater-like depression formed by glacial erosion at the head of a valley glacier. It is created by the rotational movement of ice and freeze-thaw action. A kettle is a depression left by a melting ice block; an esker is a ridge of glacial sand and gravel.
