UTM stands for Universal Transverse Mercator — a widely used map projection and coordinate system. It divides the Earth into 60 vertical zones, each 6° of longitude wide, and uses a transverse Mercator projection within each zone to minimize distortion. It is used in cartography, navigation, and GIS applications.
