Fossils are only found in sedimentary rocks (such as shale, sandstone, limestone) because they form from the gradual burial and compression of organic remains in sediments. Granite is an igneous rock formed from the cooling of magma at high temperatures and pressures — any organic material would be destroyed under such conditions. Therefore fossils are never found in granite or other igneous/metamorphic rocks.
