Spatial databases (also called geodatabases) are databases optimized to store, query, and manipulate data that represents objects defined in geometric space — particularly geographic features. The term 'geodatabase' is widely used in GIS (especially in ESRI's ArcGIS platform) to describe a database of spatial/geographic data with both location and attribute information.
