Allosteric enzymes are regulated by effector molecules (activators or inhibitors) that bind to a site other than the active site — the allosteric site. This binding causes conformational changes that alter enzyme activity. Allosteric enzymes do NOT follow standard Michaelis-Menten kinetics; instead, they show sigmoidal (cooperative) kinetics. They are key regulatory enzymes in metabolic pathways.
