Gallium (Ga) is one of the few substances (like water and bismuth) that expands on solidification. This is due to its unusual crystal structure in the solid state, where Ga–Ga covalent bonds result in a less dense solid than the liquid. Gallium has a very low melting point (29.76°C) and is liquid at or slightly above room temperature.
