The Complete Digital Marketer Roadmap

In this article I will share my experience which is divided to a complete roadmap for you to become a Expert digital marketing in 90 days and land a job or start your own marketing agency with confidence.
Let's divide the 90 days into three parts.
The first 30 days will focus on learning. You need to figure out what the different types of digital marketing are. Today, there are various spaces you can get into, and the best approach is to pick one space and focus on it completely. Learn all the ins and outs of that field. For example, you have social media marketing, landing page optimization, social media ads, Google ads, SEO, affiliate marketing, and organic growth—just to name a few. But it's really important to pick one and stay committed to it. This is essential because switching between fields too often is called the "shiny object syndrome." It’s easy to jump from one thing to another, but it doesn’t help you in the long run. Even when you look for jobs, companies are hiring for very specific roles, like someone to help with YouTube growth, LinkedIn marketing, or SEO. It’s better to be an expert in one field than a generalist in many.
Now, let’s say you choose social media marketing. The next step is to learn everything you can about it. Focus on one platform and dive deep. You’ll be amazed at how much you can learn for free in 2025. Platforms like HubSpot Academy, SEMrush, and Neil Patel’s YouTube channel are fantastic resources. HubSpot Academy offers a wide range of courses, from LinkedIn marketing to ads and performance-based campaigns. SEMrush provides insights into SEO and case studies from companies that employed successful strategies to grow their businesses. YouTube channels like Neil Patel’s and Brian Dean's are goldmines for learning about digital marketing and YouTube SEO. These are the best places to learn digital marketing, and that’s how I learned in the last four to five years.
But if you're serious about dominating digital marketing, you’ll need the right tools. SEMrush is a great starting point, and they’ve kindly sponsored this part of the video. From competitive research to SEO, SEMrush offers over 50 tools to help you in every aspect of marketing. As a digital marketer, it’s essential to know how to attract an audience using the best keywords, and SEMrush's keyword research tools, like the Keyword Magic Tool, are invaluable. These tools let you generate thousands of keyword combinations with search filters and boost traffic with ready-made keyword strategies.
So, if you're serious about building a career in digital marketing, you can check out SEMrush and start with a 14-day free trial using the link in the description.
Now, let’s move on to the next part of becoming a digital marketer in 2025.
Depending on the field you choose, let’s say SEO, you'll need to familiarize yourself with tools like SEMrush, Ahrefs, and Ubersuggest. These tools are crucial in the world of SEO, and knowing how to use them will make you highly desirable to companies. For example, if you're into creating landing pages, you should learn how to use Framer, Webflow, and WordPress plugins to create functionality. Also, learn how Google Analytics works and how to integrate everything. These are tools that will make you a more efficient, up-to-date digital marketer in 2025.
Digital marketing in 2025 isn’t just about learning how email marketing works—it’s about using the best tools available to do it effectively. Learn how to use platforms like Zapier, HubSpot CRM, Asana, and tools like Copy.ai to generate copy for your ads. Mastering these tools will make it much easier to get hired and deliver results.
The next 30 days will focus on practice. This is where you take all your knowledge and start putting it into action. If you’ve learned about social media marketing, your next step should be to start building your own brand page and growing it. See if you can turn your learnings into action. By doing this, you'll face challenges you wouldn't have anticipated just from learning, and this experience will be invaluable. Always keep track of what you're doing—whether it's creating an ad campaign or building a landing page. This real-world practice will teach you how to apply your knowledge and make you more marketable as a digital marketer.
The final 30 days will focus on getting real experience. After learning and practicing, it’s time to work with a company or take on freelance projects. Here’s how you can find opportunities:
- Register on job platforms like Wellfound (formerly AngelList) for internships and smaller startups.
- Reach out to recently funded startups. You can find them by browsing through funding news, and then you can contact the founders or marketing team via email.
- Freelance platforms like Fiverr and Upwork are great places to start. Apply for relevant gigs and buyer requests.
- Startup job boards, like Y Combinator’s, list openings for marketers and other roles in high-growth startups. Reach out to these startups and apply for jobs.
The hiring process for digital marketing positions generally starts with an assignment. They might ask you to try something out and show them your results. If it’s good, they'll invite you for a one-on-one interview. I’ve shared an interview experience on my YouTube channel, where I was applying for a social media ads role, so you can check that out for more insight.
Now, let me tell you this: The best way to prove your skills is by creating something of your own. Whether it’s an e-commerce website, a landing page, or a social media platform, building something yourself demonstrates that you’re applying what you've learned. This is your best proof of concept.
The 90-day plan to become a digital marketer in 2025 is all about learning, practicing, and gaining real-world experience. If you want to win as a digital marketer in 2025, the first and most important skill is to stay updated with trends. People’s behavior is changing rapidly, especially with AI-driven tools like chatbots. Learn how to optimize your content for chat applications like Claude or ChatGPT.
Second, always stay on the lookout for new tools that can help you work faster and cheaper. Websites like FutureTools offer a curated list of AI tools for marketing. Explore these tools regularly to gain an edge over others in the field.
Finally, understand that failure is part of the process. You may have a hunch about something that doesn’t work. Be humble enough to look at the data, accept the failure, and learn from it. This mindset is crucial if you want to succeed in digital marketing.
